Calvin is a fashion designer whose practice explores experimental pattern cutting, unconventional garment construction and the relationship between form and function. Through material manipulation and innovative fastening techniques, his work challenges traditional approaches to garment design, transforming functional details into sculptural elements. His designs balance fluidity and structure, emphasising craftsmanship, texture and the transformative potential of fabric.

Tied in Form

Tied in Form explores the relationship between structure and fluidity, examining how a garment can emerge from ambiguity rather than a predetermined shape.

Through unconventional pattern cutting, the collection transforms seemingly abstract pattern pieces into sculptural garments, using elongated ties as both closures and decorative elements. Rather than concealing the construction, the designs bring it to the forefront, allowing knots, loops and gathered fabric to dictate the final silhouette.

Satin drapes across the body, interrupted by clusters of ribbons that create texture, volume and visual tension. Each tie becomes an opportunity for transformation, allowing the garment to be shaped, adjusted and reconfigured through the wearer’s interaction with it.

The collection challenges the idea of a garment as a fixed object, proposing instead that clothing can remain unfinished until it is tied into place.
