About the school

The school was founded in Milan in 1935 by the tailor Giulio Marangoni and became a professional art school in 1942. At first it trained mainly pattern makers and seamstresses; in the 1970s and 1980s it turned towards fashion design, product development and marketing.

Its London branch opened in 2003 in a former textile factory on Fashion Street, Spitalfields, and its Paris branch opened in 2006. It is part of Galileo Global Education, Europe’s largest higher education provider.

Notable fashion alumni

Alumni include Franco Moschino, Alessandra Facchinetti, Julie de Libran, Rahul Mishra, Alessandro Sartori and Sandra Mansour. Domenico Dolce also briefly attended, leaving after four months.

Recognition

In Business of Fashion’s 2017 rankings, Istituto Marangoni International was eighth in the world for graduate fashion business courses. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, Istituto Marangoni was in the 51–100 band for Art & Design. QS ranks institutions as a whole, so this is not a fashion-specific ranking.
