The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL)
The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is a national university in Nugegoda, near Colombo. It is the only Sri Lankan university that teaches entirely through open and distance learning, and it offers a four-year honours degree in fashion design and product development.
About the school
OUSL was established on 19 June 1980 under the Universities Act. Its main campus and Colombo regional centre are at Nawala, Nugegoda, with eight further regional centres across the country.
Its degrees are treated as equivalent to degrees from any other Sri Lankan university under the University Grants Commission.
Fashion at OUSL
The Department of Textile and Apparel Technology, in the Faculty of Engineering Technology, runs the Bachelor of Industrial Studies Honours in Fashion Design and Product Development. It is a four-year programme aimed at people already working in the fashion and apparel industry who lack formal theory, and at those who want to start their own business.
