ArtEZ University of the Arts
ArtEZ University of the Arts is a Dutch university of the arts with campuses in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle. Its fashion programmes are in Arnhem, where fashion design has been taught since 1953.
About the school
ArtEZ was formed in 2002, when the Constantijn Huygens University of the Arts, the Academy of Art and Industry in Enschede (AKI) and the Arnhem University of the Arts (HKA) merged. Its name stands for the three cities: A for Arnhem, E for Enschede and Z for Zwolle.
It teaches more than 3,000 students in visual art, architecture, fashion, design, music, theatre, creative writing, dance and art education.
Fashion
Fashion design in Arnhem dates back to 1953, when a Department of Fashion Design was founded within the Academy of Fine Arts Arnhem, now part of ArtEZ. The four-year BA in Fashion Design is taught in English. ArtEZ says the programme has been awarded the Grand Seigneur, described as the most prestigious fashion prize in the Netherlands.
ArtEZ set up its first fashion master’s programme in 1990, and its master’s offering in Arnhem includes Critical Fashion Practices.
