ESMOD Japan (Tokyo)
ESMOD Japan, also called ESMOD Tokyo, was the first ESMOD school outside France. It opened in 1984 and is based in Ebisu, Tokyo.
About the school
ESMOD Tokyo was created in 1984 by Satoru Nino, a former ESMOD student who later became president of the ESMOD group. It is in Ebisu, Shibuya, teaches in Japanese and English, and has around 20% foreign students. ESMOD Paris was founded in 1841 by Alexis Lavigne.
Fashion
The school offers a fashion designer programme, a Cnam-linked course and short courses, with womenswear and menswear specialisations in the third year. In summer 2026 it ran short courses in Japanese creative fashion and traditional Japanese textiles for international participants, and it has been adding new short courses. A French programme also sends Paris first-years to Tokyo for a Japan immersion.
