Fashion

The School of Fashion was established in 1987 and covers fashion design, apparel design and engineering, and performance. It has been authorised to award master’s degrees in fashion design and in apparel design and engineering since 2003. The school says it has ranked first in the China Fashion Designers Association’s Newcomer Award contest for 20 consecutive years.

Since 2016 the university has also run the Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Arts, a Sino-foreign cooperative institute that was the first of its kind at undergraduate level in Hubei province. The School of Fashion has partnered with Manchester Metropolitan University and ENSAIT in France, and has exchange links with Bunka Fashion College in Japan.

In 2024 the school joined the British Consulate-General in Wuhan to hold the “Power of Zero” Sustainable Design Week, which presented 32 projects by 97 students. WTU has hosted Wuhan International Fashion Week since 2010.
