Academy of Design (AOD)
The Academy of Design (AOD) is a design school in Colombo, founded around 2000–2001. It offers a BA (Hons) Fashion and Textile Design validated by Northumbria University in the UK.
About the school
AOD was founded around 2000–2001, with sources giving both years, to offer undergraduate design education in Sri Lanka. It partnered with Northumbria University’s School of Design in 2009, and its first 70 Northumbria degree graduates were honoured soon after. It is now based at the Colombo Innovation Tower on R. A. De Mel Mawatha.
Fashion
The BA (Hons) Fashion and Textile Design runs for three years full time and is delivered entirely at AOD, with January starts. AOD has also offered fashion marketing, and says its fashion students blend Sri Lankan culture and tradition with the contemporary fashion industry. Students finish with an annual graduation fashion show, and AOD founded the Design for Sustainable Development Foundation in 2011.
